Types of data collected and why

Third-Party Services

When you sign up for my email list, third-party services that I use to operate my platform collect some data about you. Besides the data shown in the forms, additional information such as your IP address and browser information is collected to help with spam and fraud detection. The third-party services I use are ConvertKit and Google Analytics. Here are their respective privacy policies:

Cookies

I use Google Analytics, a service that transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States. I’m looking for alternatives, but for the moment, Google Analytics is the easiest platform to help me understand website traffic and decide how to most effectively improve my site. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You can read about their usage of data here.

Embedded content from other websites

Some pages on this site include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and tracking how you interact with that embedded content.

Who I share your data with

I don’t share your data with any advertisers or partners other than the websites needed for analytics and embedded content (videos, etc.).

Email List with ConvertKit

When you sign up to my email list, your email address is added to a mailing list on a third-party service called ConvertKit, which collects and stores the following data:

  • Your email address: For sending you new articles, updates, and subscriber offers. You can unsubscribe from this email list using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the emails.

  • Device information: ConvertKit collects information about the device and application you use to access emails sent through our mailing list, such as your IP address, your operating system, your browser ID, and other information about your system and connection.

  • Product usage data: ConvertKit collects usage data about you whenever you interact with emails sent through the mailing list, which may include dates and times you access emails and your browsing activities (such as what pages are viewed). It also collects information regarding the performance of the service, including metrics related to the deliverability of emails sent through the service. This information allows them to improve the content and operation of the service, and facilitate research and analysis of the service.

Your rights

You own your data. If you have an account on any of the third-party services mentioned above, you can either delete your account on your own or request your data to be removed. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

I do my best to maintain compliance with international privacy protection laws such as CCPA and GDPR.
